Are You Regular?

We all know what this means, and we think it is a good thing, right?  An under-appreciated fact is that the habits that bring us regularity in the bathroom also result in good general health and a sense of wellness.

What are these habits?

    1. a minimum of 5 servings of fruits and vegetables/day

    2. follow the MyPlate plan as a guide to healthy eating

    3. avoid refined carbohydrates and add more fiber to your diet

  • Exercise regularly

  • Drink plenty of water

  • Establish a daily routine of using the bathroom, hopefully with a time and place where you will not be rushed. If your life is so hectic and stressful that you cannot find a few minutes of time to be quiet in the bathroom, this is a big warning that your lifestyle is not healthy.

Finally, if you are irregular, consider whether your medicines or supplements are contributing to this problem. If your bowel habits have changed or if you see blood, see your doctor.

These habits bring extraordinary benefits beyond regularity. Data are irrefutable that these habits will improve or prevent 75% of chronic disease resulting in less obesity, diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease and cancer, as well as more energy and vibrancy in life. This is not some hokey-pokey nonsense. No medicine or medical treatment can begin to help you as much as you can help yourself.

SUGGESTION:

If you are irregular, maybe your body is trying to tell you something. Which of your habits do you need to work on?  Remember--to see a change, you have to make a change. I especially encourage you to check out the link above on "Eating a Healthy Diet." It takes you to the Harvard site called The Nutrition Source, which I think you will find to be full of useful information.

Blessings to all.
